Choosing Makeup for Brides of Colour
You’re engaged and now its time to start planning the big day! Dress, flowers, colour scheme and jewellery should all be taken into account when choosing your hair style and make up. You should book your hair and make up artist at least 6 months prior to your wedding day! Have a trial run so that you’re happy with the finished look and take along any photos you have of looks that you like.

The trend for this year is a natural look. Darker skins can wear any shade of colour so it is good to experiment with a few different shades to find one you like. Think gorgeous as opposed to office job when you’re thinking about how your makeup should look.

Go for a matte eyeshadow as opposed to shimmer for a natural look. Lips are all about colour this year. Avoid bright or shimmer lip colours if you don’t want to enhance your lips. Dramatic eyes should have neutral lips and dramatic lips should have neutral eyes. False lashes can be added for more of a dramatic effect for both looks.
Another problem is finding the correct shade of foundation. To find your true shade test the colour on your jaw line and not on the back of your hand.
Darker skins sometimes have a lot of pigmentation problems and oiliness. Another problem is finding the correct shade of foundation. To find your true shade, test the colour on your jaw line and not on the back of your hand. Sometimes you have to blend 2 colours together to get the right shade. Foundation should make you look flawless but not like you’re wearing a mask. It should look like your own skin. If you have dark pigmentation, use a lighter foundation over those areas then your normal shade over the top of it! Use a powder to fix the foundation in place and make it long lasting. Brands from the high street that have darker skin makeup include MAC, Bobbi Brown, Nars, Illamasqua and Fashion Fair.
One of my favourite products is a primer. It has many uses, evens the skin out, stops foundation sliding off and gives the skin a matte look.

When choosing your makeup think about what you’ll think of it in 10 years time.
Make up is important for photographic reasons. When choosing your makeup think about what you’ll think of it in 10 years time. Try not to go for a fashion/nightclub look and choose more of a subtle but enhanced you!
Just remember makeup is to enhance your natural look, not to make you look like someone else!
Happy Wedding Day!
